Fined £60 for being too tired to drive, and having to sleep in the car, despite buying food. They won't be getting any more of my money if they're going to promote dangerous driving like this.
Shame about the max stay only 2 hours got a fine £90 fine for falling asleep on car park. Stay away
AVOID, if you spend more than 2 hours inside as an example in a meeting as I did in a Starbucks where I spent £20 plus, you then get served a £60.00 fine a few days later via cameras, nice customer service which is yet another profit making service from UNWelcome Break.....AVOID Lance
Be very careful if you are tired and need a break, or have a planned meeting. This is not the place to arrange it. I just got stung with a £60 quid parking fine from Parking Eye for staying over 2 hours. The owners of my company flew over from the USA and I drove up from Devon, we decided to meet here and discuss strategy before going on to our meeting with a Major UK company. We purchased refreshments, a meal and used the facilities. We put money into Welcome break and to be honest it was OK. Well never again will I or anyone from my firm be using WELCOME BREAK again. what a joke, fined for using the facilities this is a disgrace. Sort it out welcome break or you are going to loose sales rep and off site meeting business and in this day and age I am sure you can ill afford it. Never again will I use your facilities and I warn everyone in my position DO NOT USE......
Just another legalised highway robbery outlet... One star for free parking
What a complete joke never will i use welcome break service station on the m40 got a fine £60 for parking in the car park by parking eye total scammers youve lost yourself alot of business i wont be reccomending you to any of my colleagues as we regularly meet at diffrent service stations across the uk what a discrace to the uk motorway services
Don't stop! Parking awful, signage unclear, drive on by!!!
I was completely unaware of there being a time limit to parking there, it was dark and i have no idea if there are visible signs or not. I expect there are signs, but were they illuminated I've no way of knowing, it was dark and late i was knackered from driving back from Liverpool after a full days work. Clearly i did park more than 2 hours as i fell asleep in the car, but what course of action do i take, pay the £60 and take it on the chin?
Disgaraceful and greedy parking "enforcement" system.
I’ve been here three hours expecting a tariff system yet I pay for a 24 hour flat rate for not wanting to kill myself or other road users by driving tired! I am absolutely disgusted that you prey on people who are following police advice and being a responsible human you money grabbing spineless tossers. Wish I’d not bloody spent another £10 on food and drink before I’d paid now!
So you stop at a service area as you feel tired and after falling asleep and going over the 2hr parking limit you receive a parking notice from ParkingEye with a charge of £100. Absolutely disgusting.
The unscrupulous company who are trying to illegally enforce parking fines need to be removed from the location. Parking eye are about to receive a very stern legal letter and counter claim..! I am sick of receiving multiple letters and fines stating that I have been over 2 hours when I have not, I even timed myself last time and they still tried to hit me with a fine..! Easier to let my solicitor deal with them now... Otherwise the guys at Starbucks are top class ;-)
Get rid of Parking eye who are ruining your reputation by slapping fines on people who are genuine and need a Welcome break. Allow free overnight parking and extend the time limit to 4 hours. Parking eye are an awful company with no commonsense.
Hounded by parking eye debt collectors for unknowingly staying 44 minutes too long despite the fact I used both Starbucks (twice)and WH Smith as well as the toilets. First I heard was a demand for £170 chased over three months after the incident. For 44 minutes that’s excessive!!!! Parking eye are impossible to contact. Have two numbers both automatic which cut off if you don’t like their options. Three mail addresses but no email. Took two attempts to use their online form to appeal. Reading Facebook seems I am far from alone and typical dismissive from WB to the effect they have signs up!!! Customers ? Who needs them !Customer Care ? Never heard of it !!!! I used Hartshead mood as I always do on this 4 hour journey. The toilets are a disgrace anyway !!! Will I be using ANY welcome break ever again NO not even if it was the last Service station in existence !!!! Colin Michell Not when they are operating a parking fine system for staying more than 2hrs. I stop at 5 in the morning for a sleep then breakfast and a overstay of 41 mins gets me a £100 fine.
Why do you allow such a company as Parking Eye to sponge a living from your loyal customers? I am being pursued for £100 when I didn’t even exceed the free 2 hour parking at Hartshead Moor. Rather craftily, I find they have positioned their cameras at entrance and exit to screw you for the time it takes to find a suitable space and get out of the badly marked out maze. You are as bad for being complicit in this contemptuous racketeering. Get ready for a blast of bad publicity.
Stop charging loyal customers if they happen to stay more than 2 hours. Do you really have a problem with people staying all day! There will be no electric car revolution if it costs a £100 to charge your car for more than 2 hours. Short sighted.
Disgraceful enforcement of parking penalty. You should be ashamed. I will fight!
What a joke, should be renamed Unwelcome Break! You stop to rest when tired, don’t realise that you need a parking ticket because it’s a service station and all the driving agencies say you should rest and recoup at them, then you’re landed with a threatening letter and a demand for £100 fine! Thanks, I’ll avoid you guys in the future!
Change the way that "parking" time is recorded so that it does not include time spent at the petrol station or blocked in by lorries so that customers are not issued unfair fines, when they have parked for the allowed 2hrs.
Beware Parking Eye rip off in operation at this Services Station. After a 4 hour drive from London, I stopped off for a couple of hours at these services to refuel, get a coffee and compose myself after a journey for a funeral later in the day. A week later I got a letter from Parking Eye to fine me for staying an hour!? I really take exception to this, I spent £60 on petrol and £5 on coffee and a snack, rest up for a while and get fined. Avoid this Services station at all cost, complete and utter trap and rip off.
Beware numberplate recognition in operation - stayed over the 2 hour time limit and received a £60 fine several weeks later. Alan Norris Had to give a one star rate just so I could post but would definitely give NO STAR RATING! The service station quotes on all signs 2 hours free car parking! But actual fact is it’s 2 hours from when you enter the slip road going in the private area and leaving on the slip road of the private area! Definition of parking “ vehicle parked up, stopped and Engine off! “ The private land is watched over by an ANPR criminal enterprise called Parking Eye! So you don’t get 2 hours free parking at all!! Even if like my self is parked just under the 2 hour point then head into the petrol station then leave so grand total amount of time 2 hours 15mins! The time spent travel from the car park area to the station, queueing up, filling up and paying, then driving away and waiting on slip road to join the Motorway is classed as your 2 hours free parking! Shame on Leicester service station which didn’t even want to know or help!!! Remove this shameful criminal enterprise and look after your customers!
Spent over £80 on fuel, coffee and lunch. 16 minutes over & a £60 fine as I had a meeting. Do not use welcome break!
Parked for 2 hrs and 15. Got a parking ticket! We saw no signs and wrongly presumed welcome break would support government advice not to drive tired. Not impressed they have passed their parking rights over to Parking Eye to make money rather than to support public safety needs.
Posting regarding the evil parkingeye mob who control the carpark like hitlers. I came back from Sheffield after a gig and was swerving abit from tiredness at 1am. The signs read DONT DRIVE TIRED TAKE A BREAK...which i did. I nodded off and 2 weeks later got a fine from those parkingeye jokers. I think theyd prefer us to die, crash or keep taxing you while you sleep. I think parking charges should stop after 8pm and leave folk to grab a FREE rest up. Services themselves not bad. Sorry but ditch those parking bandits. Then i will up my grade.
Scam parking
Got charged £100 for overstaying in their car park, whilst all the time spending money in their establishment! I'll never stop there again!!
Today I have received the PCN from ParkingEye for overstaying at night (from 2:34am to 06:59am total 4 h 24 m). 100 pounds to pay. The driver was very tired and drove in to motorway service station to have a little sleep, The driver did not notice any signs as it was dark. The driver thought that there is no charge at night for tired drivers but now when the keeper received the PCN the keeper check street view and there are signs but there is nothing about night charges the only reference to 24/7 charging is in microscopic print in a different part of the car park.
Stayed for 2 hours 27 minutes so have been sent a notice with the usual pay £60 now or £100 later. Was sat in Starbucks eating and drinking and chatting all that time so a bit peeved at paying for services there then to be charged for the overrun, it’s an expensive extra coffee I know someone has successfully challenged these at a services any pointers?
Received parking fine for staying over two hours without paying extra. I had bought coffee in the services and needed to do some work in my car. Very pissed off.
Stop trying to charge tired motorists £100 for 'overstaying' even in the middle of the night - there's nothing 'fine' about that!😞
Take away the predatory cameras and parking policies.
Started to charge abnormal loads for parking is wrong as they are unable to deviate from there authorised route and not find parking off the motorway network like other hgv Talk about a company desperate to make money this has to be an all time low well from now on i will never recommend you desperate company to anyone to use
Parking charge ticket for £100 from Break Hopwood-Birmingham spoilt my trip. Had to stop there to answer few important work emails that took over two hours. Apparently Welcome Break Hopwood-Birmingham management decided that 2h is an absolute limit for guests. Unpleasant. Very. Given no-one stays there for that long intentionally (there is no shopping mall etc), this limit is in place not to avoid congestion in the parking, but to catch drivers like myself and make some money out of it. When punitive measures are misused to benefit/profit I personally consider it disgusting.
BEWARE! Over two hours parking charge of £15, which would be fine... if they actually processed your payment correctly. I stopped by the Hopwood services with a friend back in January and we noticed the parking signs just before we left (both of us were driving and we'd stopped by at the Starbucks to chat for a bit with a group of friends). We hadn't meant to stay that long but we went back in to pay the £15 at WH Smith, where they took down our registration numbers and gave us our receipts. Two weeks later and we both receive a letter through the post from Parking Eye. Both letters had pictures of our license plates and stated that we'd been caught staying over the allowed time of two hours without paying the £15 parking charge. Because of this, we were subject to a fine of £100.00 pounds each. Which, if we didn't pay, would get us taken to court. Oh, but if we quietly paid their stupid fine before the 14th January, then we could get £40.00 off and only be charged £60.00, instead! How gracious of them. Of course, at this point, it was already the 13th of January. I'd also paid in cash and didn't keep the receipt, not expecting to have to prove that I'd paid for parking two weeks after the fact- let alone within the space of one day. So, it was either risk paying an extra £40.00 whilst trying to appeal with no evidence (which the letter said might take up 28 days), or just accept that a company like this was not going to listen to me without proof in hand and pay up. So, I paid up. Personally, I'm angry enough that I'm probably never going to stop at Hopwood services again, Starbucks or no (that was a rather expensive hot chocolate in the end, at nearly £80 total). My advice is; if you do stay for over two hours then make sure to pay the £15 parking charge, but also make sure to keep every scrap of evidence that you get, because you're probably going to need it. You can't trust Parking Eye to do their job on their own, so apparently you have to do it for them. [P.S. Luckily my friend paid by card and kept his receipt. He put through an appeal by letter- because Parking Eye doesn't process appeals by email or phone like most twenty-first century companies do- and his fine was eventually dropped].
How about this? I stayed here to meet a client, drinking coffee etc. I received a £100 penalty notice yesterday as it seems I stayed for 2 hours and 20 minutes. Disgusting.
Staying in the car park too long earnt me an extortionate fine of £100. A most unwelcome break...
2hr limit on car park I went over and charged £40 fine despite having receipts for coffee.
Just a service station with high prices. And be careful not to visit it twice in one day as I got a parking charge . It clocked me in on first visit and clocked me out on second visit. What happened in between I don't know I was charge for parking at services for seven and a half hours. I suppose people do but I have better things to do with my life.
Didn't realise this was 2 hours. went to starbucks then for food and was in for 2.5 hours. Kindly provided me with a £60 fine!
Please note: If you park for longer than 2 hours you get parking fine through the post of £60. They have cameras that clock you in and out. Dispute turns into a nightmare!
Got a parking ticket!
my son stop here on his way home from Cornwall as he had only just passed his test and was tired ,rather sleep than crash. HE was fined £100 for staying more than 2 hours 'they want our money but don't give a damn about customer service and safety, is there no end to these peoples logic (I despair )
I will not stop again for a coffee or lunch. Parking Eye does not care about your customers and do not give them fair option to pay for overstay. I spend 2 hours trying to pay for over stay in the same day, there should be online payment gate to give you a chance to pay if you realized after you left. I even tried to call your station on the number I found online but no one bothered to answer the phone. Welcome break only for toilet
The lady in whs said Parking was 2 hours free and you could buy a further 6 for £5 totalling 8 hours. She didn't know what she was selling and I got fined £100 for overstaying time there
Don't follow government advice and take a break here. They will charge you £100
was given a parking ticket for extra 36 minutes and Its like their main income from parking ticket. Matt B Not a great place to break down, they want to charge you for 'parking' after 2 hours so we moved to the hard shoulder to await help
Avoid this place like the plague. We got a fine for paking here which was pursued like hounds, we contested the fine as we were customers and provded receipts but they refused any common courtesy and forced over £100 out of us after what was a great holiday. NOT A welcome break.
Ignore Highway Agency motorway signs encouraging you to take a break if tired! I took a break here then went for something to eat and drink then got a £60 fine 2 weeks later because I had parked for over 2 hours!
Good but people do not realise they charge for parking after two hours so if you nod off it's a 100.
They charge you if you park for more than 2 hours even if you can't see the signs in the dark and you fall asleep.
Beware of the extortionate parking charges. Don’t make the heinous mistake of using the facilities for 27 minutes longer than the 2 hours free parking or you will be slapped with a £60-100 fine for the pleasure of spending your money there. Used to stop at welcome breaks regularly whilst travelling. Never ever again .
Parking charge rip off Like a lot of places these days Welcome Break use Parking Eye to impose charges on people who over stay the 2hr allowed parking period. The problem with the way that they do it here is that the cameras don't record the visit into and out of the car park but on the entrance and exit to the service station. Therefore if you make the mistake of parking for 2hrs as it states you can, then visiting the garage and then get blocked by a lorry on the way out, meaning you go over the 2hrs acutally inside the service station by 15mins even though you were only parked for 2hrs they still issue you a £100 fine. Contacting Welcome Break regarding this resulted in a email saying they can't comment (they can recind tickets if they want to but clearly chose not to in this case) and that I need to contact Parking Eye. Demonstration their lack of care for their customers. Very dissappointing.
Parking Charges Please note: If you park for longer than 2 hours you get parking fine through the post of £60. They have cameras that clock you in and out. Dispute turns into a nightmare!
Stayed and hour n half fined £60 by their eye bot plate recognition system be warned... And I did stay for coffee food and a rest.
Pulled over in this service station to be responsible and have a nap. It had been a long day and a long drive. Received a £100 parking fine a month later. Should have just paid for a hotel at that price.
I am being threatened with court by Parking Eye, the company that manages the car park at this services. I didn't do anything wrong. I was parked in a space in the petrol forecourt where there are no signs anywhere nearby to suggest that any parking restrictions apply. I have proof of this. This is outrageous! Welcome Break sort your signs out and stop these criminals taking me to court!
So tired stayed 2 hours 40 minutes. Charged £60. I never even realised there is a 2 hour minimum stay at service stations...
This is one you need to watch for getting a parking fine I payed but still got a fine of £60:00
Parking not clear. Needs to be realigned therefore exit not obvious. That added with limited facilities and usual excessive prices and time limits if you need a kip in the car meaning driving tired or pay for parking janet munn Shop and coffee place only things open at night. No hot food. Be aware...Parking is limited to 2 hours this signs not clear(I didn't see them) and overstay fine is £60. If you're tired and hungry I'd wait till next services. Don't wait for this one to open again
The parking thieves!
Tarpaulins are cut in the truck parking lot. Parking costs 30GBP and such things are apparently the norm. I do not recommend. I will never stand in this parking lot again.
The usual boring place, no reason at all to stay. If you did stay over 2 hours, wait for the v heavy fine that follows.
Exorbitant charges for parking if you stay more than 2 hours In the process of fighting cp plus who are responsible for setting parking costs at ROADCHEF in Mayor. Research the internet and you will find a whole host of upset customers apparently your over stay costs them £180.00 even if it is 5am in the morning....has anyone else had this experience....more importantly fought and £60 Parking penalty notice after staying at Days Inn
Not impressed, come home to a £60 parking penalty notice tonight after staying at this hotel overnight on 24 May all because the staff did not notify the parking company of my car registration number. Now having to go through the appeals process, sort it out Days Inn this is not good enough!! I wonder how many other people this has happened to!!!
Service was slow, there weren't many people - then to cap it all, after spending on food & drink, a PARKING TICKET arrived a month after the visit for overstaying by 22 minutes. Won't be stopping here again unless I can help it.
I visited Roadchef in Chester to access their Costa Coffee and complete some administrative work on my laptop in between home visits. A couple of weeks later i was horrified to recieve a bill for £90 because i had parked in the roadchef car park for an excess time period even though i was fully using their facilities and services during this time this is not an area where parking is particularly pressured it is a motorway service station not a shopping precinct although the service i recieved at the time was perfectly acceptable it turned out to be an extremely expensive coffee and cake if parking is such an issue then let customers pay for parking beyond a set time dont just send out random fines
Please boycott this service station, Be warned we got a £100 fine for staying just over 2 hours whilst enjoying a few drinks and brunch at Starbucks.
Won't be visiting this place ever again.......will be using local coffee shops just off the motorway in future, where you are assured a genuine 'welcome break' without being ripped off.
Welcome break, what a joke. More like Welcome RIP off. Watch out for the parking charge signs or you too will be £100 down! 2hr max free car parking, so if you stop for a well needed rest on a long journey, make sure you set your alarm clock! Have booked ourselves in for an eye test, cos we missed the signs. Will never use welcome break again, disgusted! Oh and the toilets were not great either.
Beware the car park fee of 100 pounds if you miss the sign. Toilets were so poor they made me heave. All in all a disgraceful entrance to Wales capital city. Avoid at all cost, it's really not acceptable as a services.I wont be back, particularly after my 100 pounds fine. A car park rip off
They fine you £100 if you stay 1 min over two hours even if you’ve purchased something there! Do not use these services.
Bloody Parking Eye!!!!!
Stayed for 2 hours 15 minutes for lunch while doing some work on the laptop, ended up with a parking fine of £100. A truly scummy approach to customers.
It’s 2 hours free parking, but realistically it’s 20 mins because it nearly 2 hours to get out of here
PARKING CHARGE AMOUNT: £100
tldr; set a timer for 2 hours upon entry, leave plenty of time (20mins+ at peak times) to exit car park ;)
If you are waiting here prior to an airport pick up keep an eye on the time should the flight be delayed. Also at peak times, 5PM in my case, reverse into a parking space near the exit at the north of the car park. You are in potential road rage territory here.
On the plus side the ParkingEye online payment system efficiently relieves you of your hard earned cash, bonus.
Thanks to Parking Eye I was a little over 2 hours and received a nice £100 fine in the post. I won't be going back they can F right off.
Don't go there it cost me £100 for parking
Fell asleep in the car park as felt very sleepy at the wheel on the m11 woke up and continued on my journey.
Just to get a £100 parking charge 😠😠😠
I have now said I will never use a over priced motorway services again.
Just pull off the motorway to a local village and pull up outside someone's house and sleep might even pop £20 through the letterbox as cheaper than stopping at a rip off services
"Tiredness kills, take a break". We've all seen the signs and adverts but if you need to avoid this place as you get whacked with a fine if you park up for more than just two hours!
I dislike this place immensely. Having spent a fortune on fuel and food, I found myself with an excess parking charge from the company who run the car park. Well, there's one solution to that. I've not been back and will not go back. Nice way to treat a paying customer.
Was there for 2.5 hours. Eating, playing the fruit machines and a quick snooze and got a parking ticket through the post for a hundred quid. I spent double that while I was there. Won't be back
Didn't realised that all services has limited time stay till I've received a fine in the post for overstaying 24 mins.
Don’t get caught out only 2 free hours parking when usually its 3 in other services. Rip off.
Ridiculous parking charges. £100 if you inadvertently stay more than 2 hours.
I wasnt staying but meeting family as it is a central place. Went to Costa. Lovely. Staff lovely. Few days later got parking notice from Parking eye. Wanting to charge me £100 for 15 minutes extra parking. Now I agree I was slightly over the 2 hours free parking but £100. That is just ridiculous. Won't be stopping there again.
Got fined £100 for parking for over 2 hours......not a happy bunny.
Yeah we met drank coffee. Paid £60 parking charge. Beware even if you go to pay for extra time it's still £60 well and truly ripped off
Had to give a one star rate just so I could post but would definitely give NO STAR RATING!
Just been given a £100 parking fine as I stopped there last week for 10 mins at 11am left and came back at 5:30 pm for half an hour and they claim I was there from 11am until 6pm, 7 Hours at a service station!!
One of the things I do that helps, is to offset my commuting so that I'm not traveling in rush hour, in an effort to reduce traveling time, this might mean that once I am past the busy sections on my route, I might catch up on a couple of hours sleep. This brings me to why I'm posting, as the title suggests, I exceeded the free parking period at MOTO Wetherby and have now been hit with a £100 fine, £60 if I pay before 14 days.
I was driving back from a long job and found myself falling asleep. I was exhausted so I stopped at the next services and closed my eyes. I woke up many hours later and finished my journey. It hadn't occured to me that I should have paid for that. A few days later I recieved what seems to be labelled as a Charge Notice from CP Plus, demanding £100 for overstaying in a MOTO service station car park. It is issued to me as the registered keeper. It shows my car, the reg, the time and the date. It outlines the charges and then goes on to say that if I was not the driver at the time, I should provide them with the details of who was.
I work in the railway and I was working at an area called Grately.
I was driving back to Leyton in London where I live when I became too tired to drive and pulled over at the services area in MOTO Heston Services.
I remember I was around 45 minutes from home at that time but I was just too tired to continue safely. I fell asleep almost straight away and woke up leaving the services area and overstaying by 32 minutes.
I’m just an honest working guy and felt it was dangerous to continue driving.
I’m appealing to you to please cancel this charge notice as it was an sincere mistake made in the sake of safety.
Location - Wetherby, Yourkshire.
Stopped with the family to lunch and break.
Food not good, cold and very expensive cost for three kids and 2 adults nearly £50, it took ages to get all sorted and fed, short walk for the dog.
Fuel also horrendously expensive cost over £100 to fill up. to put a hat on it we were there 2 hours and 8 minutes and that was a £60 fine!!!!!!! Try to complain and they just ignor you and start heavy pressure court action etc.....not nice people. Next service stop was Tesco Carlisle, food far better and not junk. Fuel cheapest I have seen, people nice, bough fullcart for our holiday home break. Great people I will never stop on the motorway again.
It is apparent that you have either not read or not understood the intent of my submission. I have paid the charge and I have stated that in accordance with the advertised policy I was at fault.
My point was that the policy is at fault, an opinion shared on your trust pilot review. The policy is one of rank profiteering at the expense of your customers.
1. Parking charges are excessive as you require £16 for a stay in excess of 2 hours.
2. Penalty charges are excessive as you charge £60 which is massively profitable for the car park operator and I am sure provides excellent profit for Moto.
My stay was approximately 40 mins over 2 hours so I would have been charged £16 being a rate of 40 pence per minute. I can park in central London for much less.
I have been charged £60 for the oversight and this is massively more than the cost of obtaining my details from the DVLA and sending out a letter all of which I am sure is an automated process carried out by relatively cheap computers.
I got a parking charge from CP Plus. I arrived at a MOTO in the middle of the night, feeling bad. Desided to take a rest and woke up next morning and left. It was dark and raining. I did not see any sign. I challanged it based on this and that the signed should have been iluminated of they want people to see them in bad weather and darkness. I dont know my entery time. They have a picture where all is black but my lisence plate with infrared in a seperate picture as its not visible on the main image. I am not from here and at least in my contry its iligal to charge at highways do to safety issues on road. I wrote a complain to them saying i will not pay the Parking Charge Notice due to the above.
I just received a letter in the post stating I owe CP Plus £100 for overstaying at a motorway services. The driver was driving from Newcastle > Manchester late at night and they couldn't keep their eyes open so pulled into MOTO Wetherby for a break, as soon as they pulled into a space (furthest away from the doors to the services, car park empty) they fell straight asleep and woke up 6 hours later.
I had parked (or had I?) in the Moto services in Stirling as I was having a couple of meetings. Its a good location etc etc. Anyway, being totally unaware of the time I left after a couple of hours, didn't even register the 2 hour free parking signs etc.Anyway cut to 2 weeks later and I received a PCN from CP Plus. At first I was thinking great, just cost myself £60 for being 22 mins over the free 2 hour allowance. Then I got annoyed because I didn't recall noticing the signs and went into Google to see if there were any other cases etc and came across this forum. At first I was sceptical as in the NEWBIE thread it says don't Appeal if in Scotland. In fact it says ignore! It does say complain though to the retailer (in this case Moto) so I did, I went via the feedback section and made my case. Too politely as it turns out as I got this back...
The driver has a Charge notice (for an overstay of 37mins from the end of Nov last year) that arrived 2 weeks ago, unfortunately as they have been working away and didn't get this until now, today is the last day to pay the £60 before it goes up to £100. Question, can they contest this, apparently they overstayed in a MOTO service station by about 37mins, sad how the motorway flashes up signs that say tiredness kills, take a break, and we get told to have a nap, what they fail to tell you is there is a limit to your rest depending on where you are.
I have received a charge notice from CP Plus for Roadchef services Bothwell on the M74 in Scotland for overstaying parking beyond 2 hours.I read the chart on this website that says if it is in Scotland I should ignore - do I just completely ignore or send any letter/correspondence to anyone?thanks in advance for any help/guidance.
I have received a private parking ticket from CP Plus, for exceeding the two hour limit at a Motorway Service Area. The overstay was less than one hour.
on the 1st of Feb this year I over stayed at a local Roadchef car park. Free parking was for the first two hours, i stayed 1 hr 3 mins over.
Exorbitant charges if you stay more than 2 hours
In the process of fighting cp plus who are responsible for setting parking costs at ROADCHEF in Mayor. Research the internet and you will find a whole host of upset customers apparently your over stay costs them £180.00 even if it is 5am in the morning....has anyone else had this experience....more importantly fought and won.
PARKING FINES
I pulled in here and fell asleep after becoming to tired to drive. They have a two hour limit in a rest area promoted to tired drivers. Moto Boycotted.
Thanks for nothing Roadchef £100 to park for 42mins in dead of night for a traumatised disabled 82yr-old. Hope you & PCN can sleep at night.
Just had a £60.00 parking fine for going over the allotted 2 hours at Moto Services Cherwell. To cut a long story short.... We had to leave France a week early due to my partner being unwell. The ferry was delayed by 2 hours due to a medical emergency on board, so arrived in Portsmouth at approx 11.30 pm. Having driven 250 miles in France to the ferry and facing a 200 mile drive back to Derbyshire with my partner feeling awful and me knackered we decided to rest up at the services as per the adverts " take a rest as tiredness kills " . Must admit never saw the parking charges that were displayed and just wanted to get my head down. Is this charge enforceable?. I know people in the past have advised not pay but what is the consensus now?
I as a company have been issued a parking ticket from a company called CP Plus Ltd for parking for 3 hours 45 mins MOTO Bridgewater services (M5).
Ok the ticket is not issued to me personally it is addressed to my company. The driver was a sub contractor who does work for me and other companys.
The driver parked in the wagon park intending to rest for a couple of hours but overslept.
He did not buy a parking ticket because expected to be gone within the time limit allowed. He was issued nothing on the vehicle I have been issued with a parking charge notice to the company. It is not something I would have to pay the driver would pay this I just do not like giving in too easy to these people. I read about court orders and ccjs being handed out for non payments and to be honest this is the last thing I want as a company
Not sure were we stand on this one any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Max parking was 2 hours, The signs were not visible and I have paid £125 for the notice. Not fair, not acceptable.
Watch the car park. Cameras there - 2 hours max stay. Rubbish. 👎
Shop and coffee place only things open at night. No hot food. Be aware...Parking is limited to 2 hours this signs not clear(I didn't see them) and overstay fine is £60. If you're tired and hungry I'd wait till next services. Don't wait for this one to open again
This is one you need to watch for getting a parking fine I payed but still got a fine of £60:00
Can anyone advise me I have a Charge Notice from CP Plus for overstaying two hours at Medway Services (motorway services) I had no idea that parking charges incurred on services am I right that as this a private company issuing this Charge Notice should I pay it ??
BEWARE if you enter this site you risk getting a fraudulent parking charge.
I went twice in one week and they sent a charge to my lease company costing me £90! It was claimed I stayed there for several days rather then th two visits! They refind my £60 but I am still £30 out of pocket.
They even accuse you of being to close to other cars when passing their ANPR cameras not that their system is flawed!
£100 parking fine £60 if i pay within 2 weeks because i spent 18 min to long in Starbucks
Beware that if you stop by this place two days in a row, like I did twice for some Tesla supercharging, the ParkingEye cameras can thing you have been there for alle the time between the two visits.
received a parking ticket after being only 5mins over the 2hr limit, unclear signage, overpriced food, poor facilities! Whilst actually signed, its on a virtually 90 degree bend so if you are looking at the rd u miss it! Avoid, horrible place
Terrible road layout and signage. Only stop if your desperate for a wee or fuel.
I recently parked at a moto service station (near Cardiff) and apparently exceeded the free parking period which was two hours. I say apparently, as I didn't see or realise that there was a time limit, although supposedly there is a sign stating this.
I was in the service station waiting to receive a phone call from a pigeon guide who was supposed to be looking for a location and then to tell me where to meet him, most annoyingly I got no phone call and my phone calls to him went unanswered.
Anyway, I received a notification through the post with photos of my car shown entering and leaving the service station. The company "CP Plus" are demanding £100 or £60 if paid within 14 days, they have even included a pharagraph siting a landmark Supreme Court ruling that a parking charge notice on private land is enforceable.
on the 1st of Feb this year I over stayed at a local Roadchef car park. Free parking was for the first two hours, i stayed 1 hr 3 mins over.
Initially I appealed to CP Plus, which they rejected. I requested a popla code so I could follow their formal appeals process.
Are there any points I should add to the appeals as they are asking for my comments. In their case summary they mention several court cases
The company i worked for was sent through a PCN for my overstay at the RoadChef at ClacketLane Services, they passed this on to me as i am the company vehicle is in my posession. I emailed RoadChef to tell them that i was not driving the vehicle at the time 'cough cough' and said that i would not be responding to further correspondence.
Just received a 'charge notice' for exceeding the 2 hour limit at a motorway service area.
It was dark when I arrived, and dark when I left,I failed to see any signs.Do I have any reasonable excuses that may work.please?
free parking is only for 2hours but not clearly displayed.. stay for longer and its a £20 ticket you have to buy from WHSmiths, otherwise you will incur a £100 fine with very little chance to contest.
Will never use at any of there service stations again disputing parking time they gave me a fine for parking over my time ? spending money on fuel and food go back to van got a puncture said to the attendant at the services that i thought i could be over my time she said i would be ok and 3 day later bang fine from them
my company paid it and deducted it from my pay
Google say i was under the 2 hrs on time line IN 05:48 OUT 07:40
i would like to know how accurate Google are ?
they say i was over BY 18 MINS SHOCKING
I'm the registered keeper
I received an invoice from CP Plus for £100, reduced to £60 if payment is received in 14 days,
the 14 days already passed, therefore, they expect me to pay the full £100,
It says if the payment isn't received within 28 days, an initial debt collection charge of £40 will be incurred. They sent me the invoice after 20 days of the date of notice,
as far as I know it has to be received by the registered keeper within "14 days" under the PoFA2012 legislation.
In addition, they sent me the invoice with a camera captures of the car entering the Moto service facility (it also includes a petrol station),
there is no camera capture of the car actually parked on their car park,
I know the Moto service really well and you also have to enter the service to use the petrol station, therefore, from my point of view they didn't supply enough evidence,
it only says "the duration of the stay exceeded the free parking period, and payment was not received for parking in excess of the free period" no widescreen notice was given, only the invoice with camera captures.

First post, must say this seems to be a great website. Looking forward to the great advice from the community! A bit about myself, I suffer from a couple of common illness's that cause fatigue. I have subsequently changed my diet, job, leisure activities, sleeping pattern etc.
Like a lot of places these days Welcome Break use Parking Eye to impose charges on people who over stay the 2hr allowed parking period. The problem with the way that they do it here is that the cameras don't record the visit into and out of the car park but on the entrance and exit to the service station. Therefor if you make the mistake of parking for 2hrs as it states you can, then visiting the garage and then get blocked by a lorry on the way out, meaning you go over the 2hrs acutally inside the service station by 15mins even though you were only parked for 2hrs they still issue you a £100 fine. Contacting Welcome Break regarding this resulted in a email saying they can't comment (they can recind tickets if they want to but clearly chose not to in this case) and that I need to contact Parking Eye. Demonstration their lack of care for their customers. Very disappointing.
Stopped off here on the way to Glasgow about 6 in the morning...we were both shattered and without intending too had a little snooze followed by a coffee at the Starbucks on site.
Left feeling slightly better and more aware and happy to follow Government guidelines that drowsiness can kill and it's better to stop
Got a letter this morning saying they're charging me £100 for staying 2 hours 37 minutes as there is, apparently, a 2 hour limit.
I won't be paying this invoice as it is basically daylight robbery
Welcome Break have lost my custom for good as they are obviously, little better than thieves and scam merchants

I paid my £25 to stay overnight at the WH Smith store as per the instructions to do so. Only to get a PCN for £60 for not doing so. I have my receipt and have appealed accordingly. WARNING to all keep that receipt for parking. Parkingeye are hoping that you don't in order to charge you the fine!! You've been warned.
@welcomebreak #parking #unreasonable having stayed 18mins longer than the 2hrs limit now being hounded to pay extortionate fee 😝
Take care you don't get stung for extortionate parking charges! Poor signage of 2 hour limit, no understanding of unexpected delay...such as breastfeeding infant son!! £100 worse off.
WE'LL NOT BE BACK
Used as business meeting, bought food, drinks and petrol. Now been handed a £60 fine for staying too long in car park. Never using this place again, letting all people I do business with know. Cost me £60 extra, cost you thousands
Watch out! I parked here and remember looking around for signs relating to parking fees. I did not see any but I've since received a parking charge of £61.50 for stopping here for over two hours. UNJUST!
I've received a "Charge Notice" from CP Plus alleging I overstayed the free parking period at a motorway service station and didn't pay for the parking in excess of the free parking period.
I received the below NtK from CP Plus shortly after the stated "Date of Notice", and I would like some advice on how best to contest the alleged overstay of ~42 minutes. The car park in question (a motorway services) has a free parking period of 2 hours, and the driver is alleged to have stayed on the property for 2 hours and 42 minutes. CP Plus seek a sum of £100 for this overstay.
Long drive from London to Perth.
Driver stopped at MOTO Galgate (Take a break tiredness kills)
Entered and parked up in services carpark, didn't notice CP Plus signage...empty car park/tumbleweed.
Spent 2.5 hours fast asleep and carried on journey thoroughly refreshed.
Registered Keeper just received Parking Notice in post from CP Plus
(take a break receive Parking Notice!! WT...!).
Photo of car entering at dust..photo of number plate exiting in darkness..Non specific CP Plus sign. Request for £100 of your earth pounds.
HELP! What do I do? MOTO Southwaite want £100.00 for 1 hour 25 minutes?
On Sunday 14th Oct after being on my first holiday in 5 years in Croatia I drove to Dubrovnik airport from Korcula island, flew back to the UK, and then started to drive back from Manchester airport to Glasgow on the M6, but was so tired that I stopped on route for a break for what I thought was a couple of hours sleep in my car. I then got this Charge Notice:
My car was recorded “at MOTO Southwaite North on 14/10/2018 from 02:58 to 06:23. The duration of the stay exceeded the free parking period, and payment was not received for parkin in excess of the free period.
The payment of £100.00 is required (i.e. for 1 hour and 25 minutes in excess of the free 2 hour period) within 28 days from the date of this notice (22/10/2018). We wll accept the reduced sume of £60.00 if payment is received within 14 day, i.e. before 05/11/2018. If payment is not received within 28 days, an nitial debt collection charge of £40.00 will be incurred.
The keeper has been reading this forum after the keeper recently received a PCN from ParkingEye as the keeper of the vehicle in question. The location was for Welcome Break Birchanger Green at Bishop's Stortford. Will try to keep the post short and to the point!
The driver traveled a long distance from France. The driver drove on the day and stopped due to tiredness. The driver pulled into the nearest services at nearly 4am. Nearly deserted services. The driver pulled up to sleep, no signage was noticed under the circumstances. The vehicle stayed for 2 hours 40 minutes exactly.
The keeper despises these cowboys, particularly as it is so dangerous to peoples lives if the driver is so tired, parking at the next safe area shouldn't be punished.
Essentially, I stopped at a service stop on the motorway to get a coffee so I could stay awake as it was quite late (10pm). Ironically, I ended up having a nap, which meant I was around 30 minutes over the 2 hour free stay. I wasn't made aware that there would be any parking charges at that time of night - the signs were not clearly visible at all.
Basically the situation is: Free car park at Welcome Break service station. I arrived after a 7 hour drive from Scotland. Was so tired and drove straight in and slept. When I woke up, I went into the services and used the toilet and ate some food. I did not even know that service stations had a 2 hour limit (I thought they were for resting!). I ended up overstaying by 38 minutes.
Registered keeper came home from their holiday yesterday to be greeted with a parking charge notice from Parking Eye (issued 12th June). They've spent time yesterday and today reading up on PE and appeals and they are aware that the 28 day deadline for appeal is very close (ie: TOMORROW) hence posting here for advice.
PCN is for overstaying at Birchanger Welcome Break (17 minutes). Driver (who was travelling with a baby) stopped off at the services as they were extremely tired and practically falling asleep at the wheel. They were not aware there was a 2 hour limit and did not see any signs. It was during daylight hours.

I received a parking charge notice at a services for overstaying - but I didn't realise there was a time limit?
I recently received a parking charge notice from Parking Eye for 21 minutes over their two hour time. I didn't realise there was a time limit. Do I need to pay?
Motorway services parking 'fine' from parking eye
My wife and daughter met at the Welcome Break services at Charnock Richard North on 22nd September so my daughter could pass over some of her belongings which we would take to her student house. My wife was travelling from Colwyn Bay to Devon, my daughter from her home outside Preston. As my wife was facing a long journey they had coffee and lunch at the Starbucks. They were each unaware of the 2 hour limit on parking and both have since received a Parking Charge Notice from Parking Eye, demanding £100 or £60 if paid within 14 days - they had been there for 3 hours 6 minutes. What is our best course of action? The charge seems unreasonable - the charge for staying more than the 2 hours allowed according to the Welcome Break website is £11.

I stopped at a motorway service station in the summer and managed to fall asleep. At the time I saw no signage warning of fines otherwise I wouldn't have stayed there but anyway, I received a fine with photos of me pulling on and off the service station, saying I had overstayed a maximum time period.
Stupidly (I suspect), I left the fine hoping it would go away but now it has been forwarded to a solicitor who is chasing a highly inflated sum for the fine, threatening county court proceedings seeking a money judgement order.
What do I do? Is it best just to pay it?
I have been in touch with the solicitor to give my reasons, explain that I didn't see any signage etc. I am also sceptical of just how enforceable these fines are, surely services are there for rest stops- the motorway is littered with signs to avoid driving tired. Do they really want to go to court for the value of my fine?
On the 17th September i started driving back from south Spain after a a holiday, i eventually arrived in the UK on the 19. as you can expect after hours of driving and travelling i needed some rest, i got to the point where i could barely keep my eyes open so i did whats right and pulled into a big car park and managed to sleep in the car for a few hours. Thinking nothing more of it i set off and continued on my journey back home.
On Saturday 25th i received a surprise 'Parking Charge Notice' from a company called ParkingEye!! They said that:
'Photographic evidence shows the vehicle entering the Welcome Break Birchanger Green car park at 04:17 and departing at 08:49. Based on the time spent in the car park, insufficient parking time was paid for, therefore breaking the terms and condition of the car park'
The ticket is £90 and a £30 admin fee totaling £120!!
i also did notice that there were a number of cars parked there for a number of hours too not displaying any ticket. i also didnt notice any signs for parking meters etc, however that could have been effected by my tiredness. I think this fine is incredibly unfair as in my opinion i did the right thing and pulled off into a safe car park on the road side rather than pulling on the hard-shoulder.

Not interested in managing parking just making money by fines
Despite spending of £20 at Hartshead Services I was fined for being minutes over the time allowed.
The people that operate Hartshead Services should know they will loose business as I who WAS a regular customer.I will never call there again.
